There are beautifully styled shops of fabulousness all across the country and one of my absolute favorites is AND GEORGE in Charlottesville. And George is a really cool five-room cottage filled with home furnishings and up-to-the-moment decorative accessories with a distinct point of view courtesy of owner Christy Ford.
The creation of Christy and her mother Jan Roden, And George is truly unique because it offers an inter-generational mix of refined yet comfortable elegance. Christy prefers contemporary, while Jan prefers traditional, and together they successfully marry the diverse and unexpected.
Every visit to And George offers a surprise and Christy says that’s intentional because “we pride ourselves on being as unique as possible, so everything is edited down to what we absolutely love.” For Jan, an interior designer for 30 years, that means antiques and one-of-a-kind finds from across the U.S and Europe.
For Christy, there is bespoke stationery by Erika Jack and addicting scents from Santa Maria Novella. A former photographer in New York City, Christy initially struggled with being a city girl living in a small town, but Christy soon realized that technology afforded her the opportunity to maintain her small-town lifestyle while staying connected to what is hip and happening around the world.
So when clients across the country started requesting photos of the entire shop, Christy and Jan created And George Online and launched their blog Live And George to keep clients up-to-date.
No longer a secret source, “the mix” as Christy calls the selection at And George has items from $3 to $13,000, so if you need a gift for a teacher or custom-designed furniture, shopping at And George is a sure bet.
