Spring 2011 Day 5: Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs said that his Spring 2011 presentation was inspired by “everything that made me fall in love with fashion,” and the collection he presented on Day 5 of New York fashion week made me feel the same way. When images of Marc’s fashion show were first posted on Twitter around 8:25pm last night, I gasped…literally. Marc’s collection brought back memories of my mother and her girlfriends and how sexy, chic and cool I thought they were growing up. It also brought flashbacks of me flipping through the fashion editorials of my mother’s Ebony and Vogue magazines and wanting to wear every outfit. And even Marc’s references to Pat Cleveland and Missoni were winners for me. I thought the deep color palette of burnt oranges, rusty reds, and rich burgundies along with the wide-legged pants, flower corsages, gauzes and sexy dresses were modern enough not to appear dated or costume and was a welcome change from all of the ladies-who-lunch, Hollywood red carpet and ethereally flowing garments that dominated the rest of the day. Bravo, Mr. Jacobs for bringing a bit of fantasy and sexy back to Spring 2011.
