At Home with…
Ranjana and Naeem Khan

All of this talk about the President and First Lady in India this week got me thinking about two of my new favorite designers, Ranjana and Naeem Khan. For sure, one of India’s super-couples, Ranjana and Naeem are, of course, favorites of our First Lady Michelle Obama on this trip, but let’s not kid ourselves, we all dream of wearing an evening gown by Naeem or one of Ranjana’s gorgeous necklaces, do we not? After all, the beautiful clothing and accessories that the Khans design are the essence of global chic and lady-like sophistication making them hard to resist. And while careful not to co-mingle their individual businesses, both Khans clearly embrace fashion democracy with collections available at department stores like Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Harrod’s of London, and capsule collections for HSN. And another place where their tastes as a couple merges is their sprawling New York City loft that first appeared in Elle Decor several years ago. With the help of interior designer Tom Scheerer, the Khans were able to create a warm and inviting space perfectly suited for their busy lives and love of entertaining.

Because the Khans love to entertain, the living area was designed with a lounge-like feel adding a deep-seated, Moss Green velvet Minotti sofa, De Padova tufted ottoman, an antique enlightenment Buddha, and a Le Corbusier lounge chair covered in cowhide.

In another photo of the living area, we see Andy Warhol’s “Diamond Dust Shoe” series on the wall, tons of reading material displayed in low bookcases, two Barcelona chairs and multiple globe ceiling lights by Verner Panton.

In the Khan’s dining room, two ZR favorites, a dining table and bench by Andrianna Shamaris and a photograph by Peter Beard. And I hear that the Khans have a signature Earl Grey martini that they serve at dinner parties, so Ranjana or Naeem, if you are reading this, feel free to share the recipe, the EG martini sounds perfect for a New Year’s Eve party!

And lastly, in the Khan’s bedroom, a headboard designed using mirrored cubes and a 1960′s Lightolier Starburst chandelier. The custom bedspread was designed by Naeem.
