My Passion for Design

Barbra Streisand and I were born under the sign of Taurus, and according to astrologer, Susan Miller, we share a passion for beautiful things and expect the best in life. So, when I heard that Ms. Streisand was publishing her first book and that it would focus on design, I was over the moon because Taurus people don’t do anything half way, we are all or nothing kind of people and I knew it would be a great book. I read My Passion for Design over the weekend and it is not only beautifully photographed, but written from the perspective of a design enthusiast who has clearly done her homework and researched everything down to the tiniest detail. It’s Barbra Streisand, would we expect anything less?

What was most surprising to me is that My Passion for Design is the first design book that I have ever purchased that was not written by an interior designer, but it is now one of my favorites because Ms. Streisand doesn’t just show, she also tells, and explains why she obsesses over the varying shades of red, or why she loves American architecture, and what collecting Stickley furniture means to her. For those of us without an ASID designation behind our names those are valuable teaching moments and a critical element leading us to purchase a design book. Ms. Streisand more than proves that she knows and understands this as she leads us on a private tour of her home.
