Design Candy: Rita Konig

It’s Friday, and I thought I would leave you all with more delicious design candy to enjoy over the weekend. Located in a mid-century modern building, Manhattan House on New York City’s Upper East Side, this penthouse apartment was designed by British style influencer and interior designer, Rita Konig. The soft palette and elegantly simple furnishings create a serene and welcoming home far above the hectic New York City streets below. I love the Noguchi light fixture over the Philippe Hurel table and yellow leather chairs in the dining area above.

“Comfort is what leads what I design. People should be able to walk into a room and think to themselves ‘I want to sit down and read a book here or have a drink there.”

In the living room, mid-century chairs sit below a collection of black and white photographs. The embroidered pillows are made from Indian fabric.

The living room also features a fireplace and lots of light from the windows. The furniture arrangement is perfect for entertaining or a relaxing evening at home.

The addition of the window seat covered in Christopher Farr fabric is ideal and a wonderful place to read and stare out at the statuesque New York City skyline.

Of course, what is a well-lived home without books? Here the bookcase also acts as a major focal point in the central living space in the one bedroom condo.

And here, the unexpected design element, the powder room is decorated with a floral black and white wallpaper enhanced with a small red table and mosaic tile floors.

A peek down the short hallway into the master bedroom. The bed cover is an antique Suzani throw.

And the pièce de résistance, an outdoor terrace which is such a luxury in an urban setting, but I love it when architects allow for exterior living space because it’s nice to be able to go outside without having to take an elevator when you live in the city. Gorgeous view!
