Instincts & Passion

Q: How  do you decide what to write about on Zavvi Rodaine when there are so many interesting people, places and things available?

There isn’t an exact science at all. I work on gut instinct and whether or not I am truly passionate about a subject. Having earned my keep in marketing, I understand thoroughly how the game is played and I prefer not to be beholden to sponsors or advertisers so that I can say and do as I please. And sometimes that means that I’ll cue up a post and it will sit and sit and never get published. Other times I’ll wake up in the middle of the night with an idea and I’ll run to my computer and type furiously to get the post out that day. As regular readers may have deduced, I can be very cerebral at times and very playful and let’s party at other times, but anyone who knows me personally can confirm that Zavvi Rodaine is 1000% me and I accept that some will like ZR and others won’t.

And it seems you like what I am doing. Zavvi Rodaine has grown way beyond my wildest imagination, so much so that some important people have offered to help me expand, but I am not ready to do that just yet. I like the intimacy of what I am doing and I want to continue to write as if I am talking to you—my family and friends.

A fantastic example of posting out of passion is this bit of design candy from one of my favorite hotels, The Carlyle in New York City. Designer Serge Cajfinger and photographer Venetia Scott shot the Paule Ka Fall Winter 2011 campaign at The Carlyle and the results are stunning. Fall bursts of autumnal tones on the walls and furnishings with geometric carpets proved to be the perfect backdrop to showcase Paule Ka’s beautiful collection. Fall has arrived and is looking incredibly chic!
