almond joy milkshake

So. You’ve decided to serve decadent chocolate milkshakes inspired by a childhood candy bar at your first summer get together, but then you learn that one of your guests doesn’t “do” dairy.

So. What do you do? Well…you figure out how to make an equally tasty milkshake without dairy, which requires lots of yummy taste testing, but along the way you discover a delicious new dairy-free product too.

So. While this recipe is unbelievably simple, I’ve discovered that it’s not so easy to make the perfect milkshake, consistently, so I’m sharing both versions of my almond joy milkshake–regular and dairy-free. Happy slurping!

Almond Joy Milkshake

1 cup coconut water, chilled (I like O.N.E. or Harmless)
1 handful of ice cubes
1 pint chocolate ice cream, slightly softened
2½ tablespoons almond flavor
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon sea salt

Pour the chilled coconut water and ice cubes into a blender. Add the ice cream, almond flavor, vanilla extract, sea salt and blend until smooth and creamy. Serves 2.

Almond Joy Milkshake–Dairy-Free

1 cup Rice Dream-Original Enriched, chilled
1 handful of ice cubes
1 pint Luna & Larry’s Coconut Bliss Dark Chocolate, slightly softened
2 tablespoons almond flavor (I use Frontier)
¼ teaspoon sea salt

Pour the chilled rice milk and ice cubes into a blender. Add the coconut bliss, almond flavor, sea salt and blend until smooth and creamy. Serves 2.
