My Girlfriends’ Summer Reading List
When I need a great book recommendation, I can always count on one of my girlfriends to steer me toward a great read. Just in case you’re in need of a few reading ideas, I asked my girlfriends to share one of their favorite books with you.
Recommended by Laura: Brand Manager and Mother of two who successfully balances the needs of a growing family.
“It’s a fun and breezy read about the intricacies of office etiquette (or lack thereof) and falling in love in the digital age. Great for an afternoon at the beach.”
Recommended by Chris: Finance Geek and all-around Chic-anista.
“I’ve always been fascinated with why we are drawn to some leaders (or even reality TV stars) while others just never connect. What I didn’t know is that charisma is a trait that can be developed over time and this book explains how to make that happen.”
Recommended by Michelle: Stay-at-Home Mom, voracious reader and weekend baker.
“Everyone’s read The Catcher in the Rye, but I think Franny and Zooey is Salinger’s real masterpiece.”
Recommended by Meredith: Healthcare Advocate, Mom and fantastic debater.
“If you feel like your life is a journey worth contemplating, or you’re searching for who you are, reading a Gift From The Sea may offer you the door that opens up life’s possibilities.”
Recommended by Brigette: Entrepreneur and Mother of two who never misses a beat balancing work + family.
“Nikky Finney’s use of words and the rhythm of her poetry are powerful and the dialogues and experiences in Head Off & Split are thought-provoking.”
Recommended by Kim: Writer and Entrepreneur who believes in a no-excuses life.
“Reading Og Mandino’s book is challenging, yes, but also life-changing.”
Recommended by Rhonda: Stylist, Mother of two and high heel aficionado.
“I love that Diane’s novels like Le Divorce transport us to foreign locales, and Lulu in Marrakech offers us a bit of exotic escapism by way of spies, double agents and the experiences of an American woman living in the Islamic culture of Morocco.”
Recommended by Kelly: V.P. of Marketing, Mother of two and wanna be world traveler.
“I was life stumped a while back and needed to refocus. The War of Art offered several “aha” moments that allowed me to do that. For instance, I like when he said, “…find out who you already are, and become it”.
Recommended by CeCe: Lawyer, Mother of two and closet comedienne.
“I like total escape and The Snow Child was just that. While I don’t want to give anything away, I found the story of a childless couple and a young girl they spy in the woods of snowy Alaska haunting and intriguing from page one.”
Recommended by Jennifer: Tough-as-nails businesswoman who is also very talented with a paintbrush.
“I think the title says it all. I’ve always thought that excuses were a weakness, but Dr. Dyer gets to the heart of why they are self-defeating as well.”
