I believe Penny Martin, editor of THE GENTLEWOMAN, is at the start of something big. Not because she put Beyoncé on the cover of their latest issue (I’m actually more surprised that Beyoncé chose a magazine like The Gentlewoman to bookend her Vogue cover), but more because Ms. Martin is able to bounce from last issue’s cover girl Angela Lansbury to Beyoncé so brilliantly.
In our self-aggrandizing and photoshopped world, The Gentlewoman is a breath of fresh air for women of style and substance. If you’ve ever felt that you were “the wrong class, the wrong age, the wrong size, the wrong economic background, the wrong educational background” and long for magazines with more diversity, intelligence and accessibility to assuage your monthly reading habit, then you will love reading The Gentlewoman twice a year.
