U R B A N ∙ P R I N C E S S

When we were planning The Jasmine Project, I was also re-reading I Dream A World and was reminded of the strength, character, hopes and dreams of our mothers and grandmothers and how despite the challenges of the mid-20th century, they rose above the prejudice, injustices and inequality they faced with confidence and determination. So, we imagined a modern day version of those iconic women in the manner of former first lady Michelle Obama and her first visit to Buckingham Palace.

ur·ban
/ərbən/
adjective
in, relating to, or characteristic of a city or town.

prin·cess
/prinsəs/
noun
a female member of a royal family

An URBAN PRINCESS is fierce and fearless and tackling the bright lights of big cities around the world determined not to take a back seat to anyone. Her home is not a castle but a chic condo in Georgetown. The URBAN PRINCESS doesn’t walk behind her Prince Charming but stands next to him as an equal. She’s educated and accomplishes great feats in boardrooms and courtrooms by day and maintains that same fearlessness with elegance by night. She’s taught to wear her crown without hesitation or apology, and, besides, more than anything else, what little girl doesn’t dream of being a princess...even if only for a day.

“In the world today, there’s a belief that the only way I can bloom is if I step on your flower, the only way I can shine is if I put out your light. But every soul is to be cherished and every flower should be allowed to bloom.” — Alice Walker

“After women, flowers are the most lovely thing God has given the world.”

“I never thought that I was a pretty girl because I thought you had to be light-skinned, have a pointed nose and thin lips in order to be pretty. The thought of being pretty was a foreign idea to me. So I decided to be smart instead.” — Oprah Winfrey

“A flower doesn’t think of competing with the flower next to it, the flower just blooms.”
