GREAT AMERICA, 1994
acrylic and collage on canvas

If you live in Washington, DC or the DMV, you really should spend an afternoon at the National Gallery of Art and while you’re there pop over to the East Building to view KERRY JAMES MARSHALL’S masterpiece Great America in person. Marshall’s work explores the “economic, sociological, and psychological” aftermath of slavery in America and is a part of the National Gallery’s permanent collection.
