Washingtonians don’t have go far to view Adoration of the Shepherds by Venetian artist Giorgione because it hangs in the National Gallery of Art. In this version of the nativity, Joseph and Mary are in deep meditation for their Christ child while the shepherds recognize the child’s divinity and kneel immediately before him. This is Giorgione’s very intimate interpretation of the nativity.
