Roksanda Ilincic

Has this ever happened to you?

Everywhere you go, you read about a person and you wonder: who the heck is she and why didn’t I know about her sooner?

That’s how I’ve felt about Roksanda Ilincic the past few years…

ROKSANDA ILINCIC has become a darling of the fashion set thanks to her avant garde yet feminine ready to wear collections that are always full of delicious details and gorgeous colors. In 1999, Roksanda began her ascent up the fashion ladder after studying architecture and applied arts in her native Belgrade and moving on to study fashion design at Central Saint Martens in London.

Since Roksanda’s debut collection in 2002 her design house has scored a legend of fans including everyone from girl next door Kelly Ripa to First Lady Michelle Obama to Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, but it’s her dedication to craftsmanship and the art of dressmaking that has earned her admiration and respect.

I’ve been following Roksanda’s presentations for several seasons now and after her Spring Summer 2012 collection, I knew it was time to profile her on Zavvi Rodaine because I want all of my readers to know who she is. I thought I’d share a few little known facts about her as well as Roksanda’s thoughts on fashion.

How cool is this…in 2009, Roksanda dressed 50 limited edition Barbie dolls.

“Woman who seek out my clothes want a wardrobe that insures you subtly stand out in a crowd.”

Roksanda collects vintage Yves Saint Laurent and owns close to 500 pieces.

“The Roksanda Ilincic woman is confident, sophisticated and effortlessly chic.”

Roksanda is inspired by the Jeff Koon’s puppy in Bilbao and Deborah Turbeville photographs.

“I like the contrast of something unexpected happening, which is an element I try to incorporate into my own designs.”
