Renè Gruau

“A line is the basis of all art. With a single line we can express grandeur, nobility and sensuality; the line synthesizes sensations and concentrates knowledge.”

RENÉ GRUAU was a successful fashion illustrator from the 1940s-1980s for most notably the House of Dior, but Rene was also known for his colorful and confident drawings and silhouettes for leading fashion magazines around the world. As one of my all-time favorite illustrators, Rene’s art is often featured on Zavvi Rodaine and I thought you should know a bit about him. This particular illustration reminded me of the collection Marc Jacobs just presented during New York fashion week.
