Vivienne Westwood’s Imaginarium
“Every time punk comes up, people think of me as a trophy…”
Tonight is the annual Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and, for the first time, the Institute will celebrate PUNK: Chaos to Couture.
Punk is a fashion trend that had its heyday back in 1970s London when a mix of rebellion and politics influenced fashion on the street. At its roots, the anti-establishment movement mixed fashion elements from hippies, rockers, graffiti and bondage. Since Punk has such a complex and evolving legacy that most of us were too young to experience, I thought we’d celebrate the unique designs of Punk’s leading lady DAME VIVIENNE WESTWOOD.
The eccentric British designer has had significant fashion moments for over four decades, but in the last few years we’ve witnessed the resurgent popularity of Westwood’s Pirate boots and her creativity soar to heights unimagined.
