Very rarely do I watch a movie then go back and read the book, but in the case of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s HALF OF A YELLOW SUN, I did just that. With Boko Haram and Nigeria in the news daily, I found the story of Nigeria’s struggle to become an independent republic fascinating. Half Of A Yellow Sun centers on three characters and how their love stories intersect in unexpected ways as the Nigerians fight the Biafra war. The 2014 movie adaptation stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Thandie Newton with a stellar supporting cast and African landscapes as a backdrop.
