African Black Soap

One of the beauty secrets I’ve picked up during my travels in Africa is using BLACK SOAP to soothe or calm irritated, dry skin and to help clear up the occasional breakout on the my upper back due to oils from my hair. Of course 100% raw and organic versions made with coconut and palm kernel oils are best, and my favorite brands available in the USA are SHEA TERRA in solid form and ALAFFIA in liquid form. Just keep in mind that black soap can stain your towels (trust me), so buy a handful of face cloths to use in the shower or bath that you won’t mind being discolored.

The beauty benefits for African Black Soap include:

  • Acts as a natural cleanser for all skin types that doesn’t strip oils from the skin
  • Gently exfoliates and fights acne, so many use it as a face wash
  • Balances the skins pH due to the proprietary oils and vitamin E
  • Reduces fine lines, wrinkles and evens skin tone
  • Counters inflammation and dry, itchy skin to combat eczema flare ups
  • Minimizes scars and stretch marks
  • Removes flaky build up from your scalp, so great as a pre-shampoo
