Cupid + Psyche
One of my favorite sculptures at the Musée du Louvre in Paris has a great love story. The winged young man is the God of Eros — aka CUPID — who revives a young girl named PSYCHE who is unconscious on a rock. PSYCHE had disobeyed CUPID’S mother, Venus, when she opened a flask she was sent to retrieve and is overcome with deadly fumes. At this moment, CUPID embraces PSYCHE and she takes his head in her hands in a show of love. Legend goes that afterwards the Gods allowed CUPID + PSYCHE to get married, making her immortal and the Goddess of Soul.
