Tanga’s Shotgun Cottage

New Orleans designer TANGA WINSTEAD was featured in Kerri McCaffety’s New Orleans New Elegance and I thought you’d enjoy seeing how she transformed her double shotgun cottage. Tanga’s style is very different from my own, but I like her mix of antiques and traditional furnishings and the creative ways she handled challenging architectural features and storage solutions in her home.

Shotgun cottages are very common in the South and particularly in New Orleans. The term “shotgun” just refers to a narrow, rectangular home where the rooms line up straight, one behind the other, and a double shotgun is just two homes that share a common wall.

Tanga opened the wall between the living room and master bedroom for more light.

This nook and cranny is perfect for reading, writing and a bit of peace and quiet.
