Milan Fashion Week Fall 2013

One Look: Bottega Veneta

OK, OK I’ll admit as the fashion shows have progressed through Europe some of the presentations have taken on a beautiful dark-twisted-fantasy element, but if you focus like a laser you’ll discover plenty of sophisticated, timeless and wearable styles.

Now that the fashion flock has moved on to Paris…let’s discuss Milan.

There was menswear (glen plaid, houndstooth, tweed), more fur, animal skins (crocodile, snake), and 1940’s silhouettes and styling walking the runways, but I’m predicting that tried-and-true classic elements of dressing will be the standard bearers for fall as hemlines fall and footwear returns to comfortable heights.

So, here’s the drill down on what I see coming out of New York + London + Milan:

  • A-line Dresses
  • Belt It! (especially coats)
  • Knee-length Skirts
  • Layers (especially outerwear)
  • Low heel shoes (Kitten heels!)
  • Menswear fabrics + tailoring
  • Muted tones in Black, White and Grey
  • Red accents
