Paris Fashion Week Fall 2013

One Look: Chanel

If there’s one center of the fashion universe, it’s Paris, and now that Paris Fashion Week has drawn to a close, it’s time for our final fall fashion 2013 review.

First things first…

Elements of the 1980s (at Balmain, Roland Mouret, Saint Laurent, Ungaro) continue to sneak into the fashion firmament and having lived through grunge and Star Trek shoulders the first time I was nonplussed to say the least.

And next…

Isn’t it amazing how fashion themes line up in perfect harmony season after season? I’ve often wondered if Anna Wintour at Vogue sends out a top secret communication prior to each season stating the direction the designers should take:

This season: menswear! Pops of bright red! Dresses! We need more dresses!
Forget about crazy high heels…give women flats, more flats!
And women don’t eat so they can have a waistline, so give them lots of belts!

Of course that’s my Funny Face fantasy, but it would be fascinating if Ms. Wintour wielded that kind of power would it not?

Lastly…

We’ve been building a fashion narrative for Fall 2013, so outside of those head scratching ’80s elements, I’m pleased that my earlier predictions held up pretty well. I know my fashion sensei is very proud!
