Eat the Season: Apples
APPLES are in abundance right now and with so many varieties its always fun to try different recipes — some cooked, some not cooked — for family and friends. Its been said that an apple a day keeps the doctor away, and while I can’t vouch for that, I can tell you that apples are not only a great snack for anytime of day, but also filled with antioxidants, flavanoids and dietary fiber which help prevent disease. With so many varieties to choose from you’re certain to discover at least one that you love.
Apple Grilled Cheese
Vegans can adapt this recipe easily using dairy-free cheese and gluten-free bread.
Went to Founding Farmer’s in DC with my BFF and her daughters, we ordered a slice of apple pie for the table, two weeks later I was still thinking about that slice of pie.
Carter’s Mountain Orchard in Charlottesville has really good apple cider doughnuts, but this recipe is just as good, if not better. Be careful, these suckers are addicting.
