If you’ve ever seen an ALFRED HITCHCOCK movie then you know that the women in his films were always immaculately dressed…Old Hollywood glamour at its best.
There is something to be said for the elegance of women back in the 1950’s and 1960’s, and movies during that time showcased the absolute best of women’s fashion.
One scene that springs to mind is from the 1962 Cary Grant and Doris Day movie That Touch of Mink. In the movie, Cary plays a billionaire who falls for a respectable girl next door played by Doris and in the ultimate fantasy of every woman, Cary woos Doris with a sky’s the limit shopping spree at Bergdorf Goodman. The resulting wardrobe is appropriate, elegant and refined….to die for.
As I reviewed the fall collections, I kept coming back to that mood of Old Hollywood and the return to sophisticated ladylike dressing.
If I were styling the women of that era using the Fall 2011 collections as inspiration, here’s what I would do: Tippi Hedren in Donna Karan, Kim Novak in Diane von Furstenberg, Grace Kelly in Isaac Mizrahi, Doris Day in Marc Jacobs, Diahann Carroll in Monique Lhullier and Katharine Hepburn in Naeem Khan.
Keep reading for other Old Hollywood inspirations for Fall 2011.

I thought the same thing. I love that look and era and adored many of the shows this season. Shopping this fall is going to be very very difficult (ie – tempting)
